The US airports with the most delays and cancellations were ranked by IPK103 in a recent survey
The research analyzed U.S. Department of Transportation data to identify the busiest airports, those with the longest delays and those with the most cancellations.
The busiest US airports
The top five busiest US airports are Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International, Dallas/Fort Worth International, Denver International, Chicago O’Hare International and Los Angeles International, respectively.
The airports with the longest delays
The airports with the longest departure delays are Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International, followed by Las Vegas airport (Las Vegas, Nevada), Orlando International, Denver International, Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall and Chicago Midway International.
According to the U.S. Department of Transportation, a flight is classified as delayed if it departs 15 minutes or more after the scheduled departure time.
Which airports have the most cancelled flights
According to the survey, the top five US airports with the highest number of cancelled flights are Dallas Love Field, Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International, Newark Liberty International (Newark, New Jersey), LaGuardia (New York) and Dallas/Fort Worth International.
Americans willing to pay for convenience in their flight
The survey found that the average American has $892 to spend on flights in 2023. In addition, travelers estimate an average of $2,005 for this holiday season.
Nearly 45%, plan to use points or rewards to save on travel, resulting in an average savings of $515 per person in 2023.
However, 84% of Americans do not plan to purchase travel insurance.
The survey also found that three out of four travelers are willing to pay extra for comfort and peace of mind, often opting for direct flights. In addition, 62% are open to spending more to secure seats next to family members during air travel.
